As much as I love perfumes and certain fragranced body products, I usually prefer my skincare unscented. If you peeked at my bathroom shelf, you’d normally see a few things from CeraVe and Good Molecules, a bottle of micellar water; you get the picture. But lately that shelf’s also been home to a few shiny jars that I keep opening even when I’m not actually using them, just because they smell so good.
Lovinah is a small luxury skincare brand founded by Joy Ekhator and “inspired by ancient African beauty secrets and centuries-old traditional African botanical remedies used to treat skin problems, with a twist of modern technology.” I first learned about Lovinah through my Boxwalla subscription, which offered a set of three Lovinah skincare products in its June “Beauty Box,” and I’ve been impressed by them in every which way, including their scents.
I told Boxwalla founder Lavanya (a longtime internet friend, thanks to Now Smell This!) how much I like these products, and guess what: she generously offered to sponsor a giveaway here, so one lucky person can enjoy the same Boxwalla Beauty Box containing these three items (retail value $160).
Here are more details about each product…
First up: I love all three Lovinah items that I’ve tried, but my favorite is definitely the Power Vitamin C Cleansing Balm (50 ml).
As Lavanya at Boxwalla describes it: “This balm-to-oil-to-milk cleanser smells of berries and hints of guava. It feels like a luscious jelly that rinses off completely with water, revealing smooth, supple skin. This cleansing balm contains a stable ester of vitamin C (THD) and is made in a base of antioxidant-rich carrier oils: crambe abyssinica, cloudberry, chokeberry, Arctic cranberry, guava, and more.”
(I personally have a hard time not tasting this balm as well as sniffing it…look at that color and texture.)
The second item in the box is Lovinah’s Blue Butterfly Stem Cell Hydration Mask (50 ml). Yes, it really is that bright blue shade!
Boxwalla says: “The soft cushiony texture of this unique mask makes it a joy to apply. It contains brightening blue Neela clay from Morocco, antioxidant-rich blue spirulina, and butterfly pea extracts. It gently exfoliates and refines the skin while softening and hydrating it.”
Lavanya adds, “The scent is evocative of eating chocolate by the seaside—gourmand notes interleaved with the scent of the salty sea.” (I also get some tangy citrus from it.)
Last but not least, a bottle of Goddess Glow Shimmering Body Oil (on the right in the photo above, 30 ml).
From Boxwalla: “A beautiful, delightfully light body oil that is nourishing but not greasy at all. . . It completely sheers out when massaged in, leaving a veil of the prettiest, gentle shimmer. This glowy body oil is made in a base of jojoba, baobab, sesame, argan, and moringa oils.” (It has a summery scent of tropical white florals and vanilla.)

These all look amazing and very different from any skincare products I’ve tried. I would probably try the Goddess Glow Shimmering Body Oil first and the other 2 as soon as I had time for a leisurely treat (but would open them all to smell at the same time!)

The Power Vitamin C Cleansing Balm got my attention. I use various Vitamin C products and find with regular use, my skins is smoother. The scents of all three are appealing to me and I like scented products. Thanks for the draw. Boxwalla’s beauty boxes must be popular; I noticed several were sold out.
