(A bit late!)
Reading: I just finished Betty Halbreich’s memoir, I’ll Drink to That. I don’t understand the choice of title, but I’m really glad I finally read this. (I believe her third book will be published, posthumously, later this year.)
Art: Becoming Bohemia: Greenwich Village, 1912-1923 at the New York Public Library.
Audio: I’m about a decade late to the party, but anyway, lots of Florence + The Machine.
Video: I was hooked on Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story for a week or so. Now I need to watch an actual documentary about the real-life crime and trial.
(Tr)eats: Scones from the farmers market. Local apples (usually sliced, and spread with peanut butter, because I am six years old at heart).
Drink: Honey-lavender herbal tea in the evening.
Garb: Loose, kimono-like silk jackets over sleeveless dresses. The temperature has been ping-ponging up and down for weeks and this combo allows me some layers and some ventilation at the same time.
Beauty products: Have I mentioned already that I really like Crown Beauty’s hair products, especially their leave-in conditioner and mousse? I also figured out that their styling cream, while too heavy on its own (for me, at least) makes a perfect spray-on finishing product. I squirt a little bit into a small spray bottle filled with water, shake well, and spritz on as a final step. And these products all have a very mild green tea and citrus scent, nothing potent, thank goodness.
Pleasures: Taking an autumn walk in Inwood Hill Park. Getting a Covid booster (despite the 48 hours of post-shot ickiness). Attending a friend’s perfume history class and meeting a very lovely perfumer.
Plans: Plan some interesting new talks and tours for the winter. Keep up the shoulder exercises I learned at physical therapy. Catch up on medical check-ups (eyes, teeth, etc.). Start going to some winter crafts/antiques/oddities fairs!
What are you currently reading, wearing, sniffing? How was your spooky season?

Mmmm, nothing juvenile about apples with peanut butter – just the perfect treat!
Watching Ripley on Netflix. The crisp black and white film, the artistic shooting angles, and the monotone creepiness of Tom Ripley is what draws me in..
Reading Cool Gray City of Love – essays on San Francisco. A place I recently visited again, and one in my heart.
October was a month of wearing scents in honor of the Halloween festivities and finally some cool weather. Comfort scents to envelop me during this tumultuous election season (Serenity now!!). Liis Bo, Scents of Wood Sequoia in Rye, Scents of Wood Plum in Cognac, Blocki This Grand Affair, and on x Ormonde Jayne Woman, probably the best spooky (hemlock) and comforting scent.
