Passing Fancies ~ December 2024

Reading: Sea of Tranquillity by Emily St. John Mandel. It gave me scary dreams but I loved it.

Audio: Christmas songs, from all my usual favorites, old and new.

Video: The movie Conclave…great cast, gorgeous cinematography, plenty of plotting and scheming in a Vatican setting.

(Tr)eats: Struffoli and panettone from our favorite bakery. Chocolates from Li-Lac (a gift).

Drink: Sam Adams Holiday White Ale (nice citrusy notes!).

Garb: A big cozy new wool cardigan sweater in a wintry pattern of black, white, and blue…but now the temperatures have gone up into the 50s again.

Beauty Products: Now that I’ve worked my way through a sample set, Henné Organics tinted lip balms in Muse and Intrigue are on my to-buy list. I’ve also been dabbling in magnetic nail polishes but I have to learn some basic techniques!

Pleasures: Seeing some recent writings and interviews about fragrance come to fruition. Thanksgiving with family and friends. Snow in NYC!

Plans: New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day with friends. A launch event for Viscose in late January. Maybe write and send some post-holiday cards?

Feel free to share your own recent pastimes and pursuits!

  1. I’m reading Hilary Mantel’s final books in her Cromwell Trilogy: Bring Up the Bodies and The Mirror and the Light, in advance of the TV series coming to the US. Haven’t been to a movie in forever, but we recently watched “Fly Me to the Moon”, which was funny and well-done. I’ve heard “Conclave” is excellent from several friends!

Mostly I’ve been continuing to get my garden back into shape after major repairs to a wall that runs along one side; it looks great and should be lovely in the spring. I’m also trying to keep renewing or upgrading my needlework skills, both by machine and by hand, now that I’m retired. I’m still trying and writing about new fragrances (new to me, at least), but I’ve reduced my purchases of full bottles. I have a large stash of samples to work through! Happy 2025 to you and yours.
