Local Boy Makes Good: the artist and Jersey City native KAWS, born Brian Donnelly, is the subject of a retrospective exhibition opening this Friday (2/26) at the Brooklyn Museum. It was curated by Eugenie Tsai and covers KAWS's career from the 1990s to 2021, from his early graffiti sketches and designs (like this one, which apparently ended up in JC's Newport neighborhood) to brand-new paintings, large-scale sculptures, and an augmented reality app. He's come a long way since hopping the PATH turnstiles at Journal Square. 😉 Go see it! ! ✖️✖️
In honor of Edward Gorey's birthday...some of his sketches of the mysterious elixir known only as Q.R.V.
Another wintry visit to the BKM. Detail of John Biggers (American, 1924-2001), Web of Life, 1958. Tempera on wood. Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Museum Fund for African American Art and Florence B. and Carl L. Selden Fund, 2011.50.
Rounding off (hah) the weekend with a final portion of this very picturesque focaccia Barese from @breadandsaltbakery. (It tasted as good as it looks.) 🔥
Radiator time on a winter #caturday.
Scent-of-the-day for this #fragrantfriday... Lorenzo Villoresi Teint de Neige. I realize the name translates as "snowy-white complexion," not "shade of snow," but it really is lovely on a wintry day, a big soft blanket of heliotrope, powdery jasmine, ylang ylang, tonka bean, and musk. In the background: @angela.m.sanders interview with LV, in NEZ. ❄️🌨️❄️🌨️
