Since we’re observing Presidents Day in the United States today, here’s a curiosity that I found online: a small perfume bottle featuring the images of William McKinley (25th President) and Theodore Roosevelt (McKinley’s Vice President, and 26th President after McKinley’s assassination in 1901). …
It was produced in 1900 by Whitehead & Hoag, a Newark, New Jersey-based manufacturer of advertising novelties. It’s made of celluloid, with a small cork stopper to keep the fragrance inside. The reverse features a tiny American flag.
This bottle belongs to the collections of the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site and is included in the digital library of the Theodore Roosevelt Center at Dickinson State University, North Dakota.
