Passing Fancies ~ May 2021

Reading: I spotted Widow Basquiat (by Jennifer Clements) in a bookstore and remembered that I’ve been meaning to read it for ages. Bought it, devoured it, can’t stop thinking about it.

Video: Halston on Netflix. (I’d have to give a very mixed review of this one.) Mare of Easttown, starring Kate Winslet with a DelCo accent.

Audio: “Perfume on the Radio,” of course! and I joined Clubhouse just so I can attend “Perfume Playdate” (hosted by my frag-friends Daisy and Olya) on Thursdays at 6 PM.

(Tr)eats: I’m planning a trip to the fruit truck on the corner to get some freshly cut mango sprinkled with Tajin. One of the signs of early summer!

Drinks: I’ve committed to purchasing better-quality tonic water for the gin & tonics I’ve already started making over the past week or so.

Garb: I just brought a few lightweight black summer dresses to be shortened by the local tailor. Now I’m ready for the heat…maybe.

Beauty Products: Ouidad has a new, lower-priced haircare line named Twist. So far, I’m getting good results with the shampoo and conditioner I’m trying.

Pleasures: Vaccination peace-of-mind. A mini-staycation right here in our own New York City, complete with time in bookstores, cafes, classic bars, and a perfume shop or two.

Plans: Attending a 20th-anniversary party for a lovely couple; this is our local friend-group’s first semi-indoor social gathering since New Year’s Eve 2020. And more dates with other friends for drinks or tea. Such a social renaissance!!
