Passing Fancies ~ September 2022

Reading: I just finished Alan Bennett’s The Uncommon Reader, in honor of the Queen’s passing. And I’m back to Eve Babitz, with Slow Days, Fast Company.

Audio: I’m also reading a biography of George Michael and I keep going over to Spotify to play the songs that it mentions. Memories!

Video: Yellowjackets. I’m late to the party on this one. And the Van der Valk mysteries on PBS.

Tr(eats): Fresh figs. Superlative autumn soups (white bean and pumpkin!) from our favorite bakery/eatery.

Drinks: Chamomile tea in the evening. (I’m currently getting over a cold and trying not to mix alcohol with Nyquil!) Coffee breaks at Villager during the week.

Beauty Products: My current favorite hair combo is LUSH: Seanik shampoo bar and American Cream conditioner. I’ve been using Weleda Skin Food “Light” on my face as a final step at bedtime and it feels like a great product for the shift into cooler weather. A full bottle of Dawn Spencer Hurwitz’s Rosé, which I don’t even want to mention because it feels like it was made for me.

Garb: Anna Sui just released a new bag collaboration with Kipling, so…

Pleasures:  A fragrance event that was also a reunion with some old friends. Rotating back to my fall wardrobe — perfumes and candles as well as clothing. New notebooks. A new phone — I was at least two years overdue for an upgrade.

Plans: A perfume talk and some family-related travel. A new scent-related project at work (stay tuned!). More writing? And I probably won’t be dressing up for Halloween, but I’ll enjoy seeing all the local decorations and handing out some treats to the local kids.

  1. I’ll be checking out The Uncommon Reader too! My current books are Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norell and Frankenstein. I just started the former, which was a blind buy based on Piranesi. When I found it on the shelf I had a spontaneous burst of happiness that it was so long – more of Susanna Clarke’s style is what I’m hoping for! Inquiring Minds would love to read a review from you of DSH Rose after you said *that* much. 😄. Treats are last of the garden okra, tomatoes and Lima beans.
