Do you watch “Schitt’s Creek”? I have to admit that it didn’t really grab my interest, initially…but then I went back and gave it a second try. It’s turned out to be an acquired taste for me.

Speaking of taste, this easy-to-miss line of rapid dialogue in the “Turkey Shoot” episode is the kind of moment that the show does so well…

David Rose gets a little defensive when Stevie, the ever-sarcastic desk attendant at the Rosebud Motel, implies that he’s not gutsy enough to accompany her on the annual town turkey hunt.

“I have a strong feeling that would not be your thing,” she deadpans.

“And what do you think ‘my thing’ is exactly?” he retorts.

“High-thread-count sheets?” she hazards. “Colognes that smell like fireplace…?”

No need to go any further; he cuts her off by accepting her implicit dare.

So, what specific fragrances would David Rose wear? Here are a few ideas…

The first one that comes to my mind: Maison Margiela By The Fireplace.

“Remember the reassuring crackling fire on a winter morning with By The Fireplace fragrance. Get back to this comforting memory with this woody Eau de Toilette.”

Or is that too easy? Would David wear something that just anyone can buy at Sephora? Let’s get a little more esoteric…

Here’s something from the niche brand Imaginary Authors: A City on Fire, whose “refined smoke accord makes this an austere and luxurious scent for evenings on the town, whether with a special someone or alone and looking for trouble.”

That sounds about right, and I think David would appreciate the packaging design as well.

Another likely candidate: Comme des Garçons BLACK Eau de Toilette, described as “an emergency, guerrilla-like, spiced-up new scent.” I feel certain that David used to shop at Comme des Garçons and appreciates their aesthetic.

Another niche pick, slightly more outdoorsy but still sophisticated: Dasein Winter Nights, with its notes of “coastal forest, driftwood bonfire, cardamom tea, lavender, and wild musk.”

Plus, it’s a seasonal limited edition.

Bonus: if David’s former NYC apartment was accessorized with scented candles, and his cologne tastes crossed over into home fragrance, he could have picked up one or two D.S & Durga Portable Fireplace candles. Modern! witty! and the packaging design, once again, complements his wardrobe.
